  • undergo a screening interview
  • submit to a criminal background check

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered for 5-10 years olds during the 10:30 Mass. The children are sent from the Main Assembly after the Opening Prayer and re-gather in the Chapel with catechists and volunteers. They listen to the Sunday readings from the Lectionary for Masses with Children (an age-appropriate version of the scripture readings), reflect together, sing songs, recite the Profession of Faith and offer their own Prayers of the Faithful.  They return to the Main Assembly during the Preparation of the Gifts and the Altar.

Children’s Liturgy has been offered at St. Francis Xaiver since the Feast of St. Ignatius 1995. It is a popular and valuable ministry as it helps children to grow in their faith and understanding of the Word of God. It also allows parents and other adults to focus on the readings and homily without distractions.

Children’s Liturgy is not Sunday School. It is not a substitute for catechesis or religious education, but a complement to it.
